Our Information Technology Department was formed in 1998 to deal with the various legal issues arising from e-commerce and other information technology driven products.
Since its inception, lawyers from this Department and the Corporate and Commercial Department have been advising clients on web-site design, outsourcing agreements, sale of portals and on the legality of certain products sold or services provided on the Internet. They also advised universities and tertiary institutions in Hong Kong on startup incubation joint ventures, shareholding structure and financing strategies.
Lawyers from this Department and the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department have also advised clients on libel action on the Internet and possible breaches of provisions in the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.
In the past decade, we have made significant achievements on database design by programmes developed by the IT staff of our firm. We apply information technology to improve our service delivery, upgrade the value of our customer services and enhance efficiency and productivity in all our services. Our Information Technology Department will continue to promote a more pervasive e-environment that brings the ultimate benefit of electronic document management to our law practice.
The "New Economy" calls for new approach to old problems, thereby opening up another dimension of legal frontier. This is an exciting time to be in as lawyers have a chance to shape the legal topography with every new invention in the field of information technology.
